FAQ
Q: I purchased the 12 Gauge Shotgun Pig. Can I purchase just the foam pieces for the other gauges?
A: As of April 2025, an improvement has been made to the Shotgun Pig. The foam is now permanently attached to the jag to improve performance of the product. Individual foam pieces are no longer available for purchase.
Q: I lost the small piece that keeps the patch attached to the Shotgun Pig. Can I purchase this separately?
A: Yes, it is listed on the website under Replacement Parts.
Q: The foam piece came off of the plastic jag. Is there anything I can do the keep this from happening. How do I fix this.
A: After receiving a few calls about this, we have tested gluing the foam to the jag. In April, 2025, we implemented this into our production. Any Shotgun Pigs sold after April, 2025, the foam will be glued to the jag. We tested a number of adhesives and we use Original Gorilla glue to secure the foam to the jag. You can do this as follows:
1. Carefully remove the screw, magnet and washer from the top of the jag. Be careful handling the magnet as it is strong and also fragile.
2. Remove the foam. There are threads on the jag to assist keeping the foam in place, so you should turn the foam counter clockwise when you are removing it.
3. Place one or two small drops of Gorilla glue on the smooth part of the jag above the threads used to secure the foam.
4. Screw the foam back onto the jag and remove any excess that accumulates at the bottom of the foam. A small accumulation of glue is not an issue. The top end of the foam should be even with the top of the jag where the washer, magnet and screw fit.
5. Allow the glue to dry for at least 4 hours. Longer is always better.
6. Replace the washer, magnet and screw. Snug the screw, but do not over tighten.
Q: Does the Shotgun Pig fit all of the standard shotgun cleaning rods?
A: The Shotgun Pig has a threaded end which is 27 threads, 5/16 diameter. This has been the standard since approximately 1934. Some older Outers gun rods have a different thread and you would need an adapter to use these rods.
Q: Can I use any type of patch material with the Shotgun Pig?
A: The Pig recommends newer, non-woven materials that do not leave any lint in the barrel. An old cotton T-shirt works too.
Q: What is the recommended size of the patch for each gauge?
A: The Pig recommends a 2.5 inch square patch (for all gauges) that is approx .0065 to .01 thick. You can also use round patches, but we feel the square patch does the best job.
Q: Can i use the Shotgun Pig on a rifled barrel?
A: Yes, you shouldn't have a problem at all.
Q: I lost the screw and the magnet? Can I purchase replacements?
A: Yes, these are available in our store or you can purchase the screw at any local hardware store. It is a ½ inch, 6-32 phillips oval head machine screw.
Q: Do you plan to make a similar product for rifle and pistol calibers?
A: Yes! We are in the development stage of the Pistol Pig, it should be available soon. Join our mailing list here to stay up to date on new products.
Q: I have a question you haven't answered.
A: Drop us an email and we will get back to you right away!
