FAQ

Q: I purchased the 12 Gauge Shotgun Pig. Can I purchase just the foam pieces for the other gauges?

A: Yes, you can purchase them individually or as a set.

Q: Is the plastic part of the Shotgun Pig the same for each gauge?

A: Yes, the foam pieces and other parts for the Shotgun Pig are interchangeable. However, we recommend that each Shotgun Pig be purchased as a complete unit. This will eliminate potential issues with handling the Rare Earth magnet and reduce wear on the foam. The nylon pig body, has threads that secure the foam. Slowly twisting the foam onto the nylon pig body is recommended. Removing and replacing the foam without twisting will cause the foam to wear out prematurely.

Q: I lost the small piece that keeps the patch attached to the Shotgun Pig. Can I purchase this separately?

A: Yes, it is listed on the website under Replacement Parts

Q: Does the Shotgun Pig fit all of the standard shotgun cleaning rods?

A: The Shotgun Pig has a threaded end which is 27 threads, 5/16 diameter. This has been the standard since approximately 1934. Some older Outers gun rods have a different thread and you would need an adapter to use these rods.

Q: Can I use any type of patch material with the Shotgun Pig?

A: The Pig recommends newer, non-woven materials that do not leave any lint in the barrel. An old cotton T-shirt works too.

Q: What is the recommended size of the patch for each gauge?

A: The Pig recommends a 2.5 inch square patch (for all gauges) that is approx .0065 to .01 thick. You can also use round patches, but we feel the square patch does the best job.

Q: Can i use the Shotgun Pig on a rifled barrel?

A: Yes, you should't have a problem at all.

Q: I lost the screw and the magnet? Can I purchase replacements?

A: Yes, these are available in our store or you can purchase the screw at any local hardware store. It is a ½ inch, 6-32 phillips oval head machine screw.

Q: How long will the foam piece last before it has to be replaced and can I purchase replacements?

A: It really depends on your usage of the product and how well you take care of the Shotgun Pig. The special foam does not absorb liquids, so the gun solvent and oils should be wiped off after each use. The foam should last for a long time if properly cared for. If you need new foam, visit our store.

Q: Do you plan to make a similar product for rifle and pistol calibers?

A: Yes! We are in the development stage of the Pistol Pig, it should be available soon. Join our mailing list here to stay up to date on new products.

Q: I have a question you haven't answered.

A: Drop us an email and we will get back to you right away!
